EMPLOYEES TRIM A TREE WITH PICTURES OF CHILDREN WHO WON’T BE HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS

For Immediate Release

2004-12-16

Toronto, Ontario (December 1, 2004): This holiday season is a time when family and friends gather to celebrate and it is a joyous time for all children. But not all children will be home for Christmas in Ontario.

Child Find and the employees at Rogers Cable

have joined together in a collaborative effort to decorate Christmas trees to build awareness for missing children in the community. As a result of this partnership, trees have been dressed in photographs of missing children, instead of traditional ornaments.

According to Child Find, “The holiday season is a time of celebration, but there are many families who won’t be celebrating this holiday season. In fact there were more than 60,000 cases of missing children reported to police this year in Canada.”

“Our goal is to increase awareness about missing children at this very special time of the year, said Nancy Cottenden, Director of Public Relations of Rogers Cable. “We have been a long time supporter of Child Find and wanted to take the time to remember those children who are missing as families and Child Find continue to search for them”.

This year, throughout Ontario, New Brunswick and Newfoundland, Rogers Cable employees will decorate18 trees. A Child Find Tree of Hope can be found at the Bay, on the corner of Queen Street and Bay Street in Toronto and in front of the Rogers Cable building on the corner of Bloor Street and Jarvis Street in Toronto.

Child Find has been helping to bring missing children and teens home for 20 years.

A registered charity, with volunteer chapters across Canada, Child Find is the leading voice for missing children in the country. Its mandate is to work both for recovery of missing children – and prevention through education. Working with investigating officers, families, corporate partners and communities, Child Find achieved a 97% recovery rate for its cases in 2003. And its services and programs are free to families and communities. For more information on Child Find, visit www.ontario.childfind.ca
